Happy New Year, my friends! I can hardly believe it’s now 2018!
If you’re like me, before I can dive into my new year’s plans, I have to review the old year.
Here were some of my goals from 2017:
-Read 20 Books
-Create Healthy Habits
-Study God’s Word Every Day
-Work Hard, Leave Results Up to God
-Meditate On & Cultivate Joy
I feel like I accomplished or made significant progress on most of those. I did read 20 books and I did work hard. One of my major goals was the last one. I know I have shared before that “joy” was my word for 2017. The funny thing was that in meditating on, studying, and pursuing joy, I wound up focusing on something completely different.
I kept asking the question, “What is the the secret to having joy?” I was tired of feeling negative so much of the time. Happiness felt like a mythical thing, but I really wanted some.
What I discovered from asking the above question is that it’s impossible to feel joyful while not feeling something else… gratitude.
I spent the rest of the year studying gratitude and I truly believe that it is the actual key to joy.
It is literally impossible to be happy if you don’t appreciate your life! And, you can’t really appreciate your life without expressing thankfulness for it.
So, there, I just told you the secret to having joy: start thanking God and everyone who has ever blessed your life and you’ll be happy forever.
Actually, I know that’s an oversimplification. But, envision for a moment what your life would look like if you literally felt thankful for everything you had, everyone you loved, and every experience you’ve gone through. Wouldn’t that be incredible??
I’m still working out what real gratitude looks like. I don’t think I’ll be done thinking about it for a long time, but I wanted you to know and possibly share in the revelation I’m having over here!
What did you learn in 2017? Anything you’d like to share in the comments below?
Stay tuned for more to come about my “favorite things from 2017” (from products to tv shows) and, of course, everything I’m hoping for in 2018!
