I have so many thoughts about the Olympics right now, my favorite sporting event of all time. First of all, I keep thinking about the USA gymnastics team and the sexual abuse that has recently been exposed. I’ve been so angry for the victims of what can only be called pure evil and gross neglect. What else is going on in these athletic organizations where young people are so vulnerable?
I keep wondering if the political turmoil in Korea can continue to lie somewhat dormant for the next few weeks while the athletes live out the climax of their lifelong work? I’m praying for God’s protection over the people there, citizens, athletes, their families, guests from around the world; for peace and safety for the duration of this event…
I’ll be following Canadian figure skating most closely this year. My two favorite skaters, Tessa Virtue & Scott Moir, came out of retirement for this. I’m holding my breath, hoping they take home gold before leaving the sport for good. To me, they are the best ice dancers of all time, technically and artistically. Look for them in the opening ceremonies carrying the flag for Canada!
Snowboarding, curling, ski jumping, and freestyle skiing…I love these events and the stories that unfold. I found NBC’s closing montage from Rio in case you forgot how awesome the games are:
Please don’t forget to be in prayer for all of these athletes and the citizens of Korea. Pray for the believers there and that they can show the love of Christ to the people around them.
Happy Olympic Season!
