We tend to think more about thankfulness and gratitude as our beloved Thanksgiving holiday draws near. Gratitude is a topic that the Lord has been confronting me with for the past year, and it will undoubtedly be the subject of another blog post, but today, I wanted to talk about the wildly different stuff we can be thankful for.
I think most of us would say we’re thankful for the standard things like loved ones, salvation in Christ, some sort of occupation, what health we possess, and the meeting of our physical needs. Often people sort of stop there because those are such all encompassing things that it’s hard to imagine what else to say.
“EVERY good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights.” – James 1:17
EVERY gift! So, this post is to acknowledge ALL the gifts, including the ones that seem weird…
I am thankful for:
1.) Nail Polish
2.) the Lymph System
3.) Roses
4.) God’s omnipresence
5.) Pink pens
6.) Warm rainy nights
7.) My coworkers
8.) The fact that leaves turn vibrant colors before they die
9.) All this and heaven too?!?!
10.) Songs like Lemonade by Chris Rice
11.) Watercolor
12.) Train whistles
13.) Sheep
14.) Marvel movies
15.) Sapphires
16.) the courage to speak truth in love
17.) Nordstrom’s service
18.) Huey Lewis’s voice
19.) the fact that God’s goodness is everywhere you look
20.) Charles Dickens
21.) Waffles
22.) Christ’s prayer for his people in John 17
23.) Sunscreen
24.) the color turquoise
25.) Thanksgiving Day!
and on and on and on.
What are you thankful for? Get thorough because I’m sure you’re thankful for a lot of things without expressing it! Just remember that every good thing comes from God. When we slide fuzzy slippers on our feet or take a sip of cocoa this winter, that good feeling comes from Him! When we find the answer to a problem, or fall into bed after a long day, or cuddle a puppy, or finish a great book, or buy more sticky notes that goodness comes from Him! We should say thank you!
