We’ve all heard it said that the key to productivity is starting the morning right, yes? I too, am a firm believer in morning routines that set the tone for the rest of the day. Well in this post, I’m sharing the 7 things that make up MY best, most healthy, incredibly productive morning.
1.) Drink water!
I am so bad about this for some reason, but when I just sit and drink an entire bottle of water first thing in the morning, it wakes me up like nothing else can, and it gives me energy for the next several hours. Bonus tip: Hot lemon water will do wonders for your system, balancing alkaline levels and detoxing your body right away.
2.) Do something you love that doesn’t involve a screen for 1/2 an hour!
Whether it’s reading a book, sketching, playing with your dog, or baking muffins, find something you would be inclined to do if there was no phone, computer, or television in the house. Rediscover your love for those tangible activities and connect with them for half an hour each morning. It will expand the way you think during the day and remind you that you can survive without your phone.
3.) Dry brush
If you don’t know what this is, it might sound weird, but it is a legitimate thing in the health world, trust me! Our bodies’ lymph systems are basically like our sewer systems. We need them to function correctly in order to flush the toxins out, and believe it or not, we can actually help them do their job! Dry brushing is lightly brushing your body with a bath scrub brush so that lymph flows faster under the surface of your skin. This will wake. you. up. It will also give you healthier skin! It’s a nice little way to love yourself in the morning and won’t add more than 10 minutes to your morning routine. Want to know more? Click here! Bonus tip: Always brush towards your heart, whether you’re brushing your neck or your legs. The lymph flows in that direction.
4.) Bible Time
If you believe in Jesus, there’s nothing better for your spiritual health than studying his words and praying to him every day. Don’t worry if you don’t “feel” in touch with him each morning. Over the long haul of studying the Bible, you will have encouragement and wisdom at your finger tips for the moments when you’re discouraged and in need of answers. It will add up, believe me!
5.) Move
A few yoga poses, a few laps around the house, a few bench presses, or even a few stretches, it doesn’t matter! Just move your body! You’ll feel better physically and mentally.
6.) Make time for that passion project
If there is something you have always wanted to pursue that has nothing to do with your day-t0-day job (maybe you want to write a book or start a business, teach yourself how to cook or play the piano), make a little time for that before the day gets going. You will find yourself moving forward in ways you never thought possible!
7.) Knock out the dinky jobs
I call them “dinky jobs” but they’re the ones that only take 10 minutes to finish or for which you need the least amount of brain power. Getting the little things done, checking them off your list, and feeling like you’ve already accomplished something will motivate you when you begin the bigger tasks.
Of course, none of this is possible if you only get up in time to get ready for work. Waking up early enough to make time for a morning routine is essential! Just get in bed early the night before so you stay refreshed!
What are some things that kick-start your morning? Let me know in the comments!

All really great ideas! 🙂 I definitely believe drinking water first thing, is vitally important. I can hardly get out of bed unless I’ve guzzled half a “bkr” of water.
